Nonresident Landlords
There is no restriction on purchasing UK property. Anyone in the world whether an individual or a corporate body may purchase UK property and let it out.
However there are special rules dealing with income from rent when a ‘non-resident’ landlord is involved.
Completing the correct documentation for HM Revenue and Customs is vital in such cases. Otherwise the managing agent (or tenant, if there is no managing agent) is legally obliged to withhold a portion of the rent received before passing the balance to the landlord.
The annual tax return for the ‘non-resident landlord‘ must be completed on a timely basis.
